Part of the World Heritage site at Blaenavon (cadw.gov.wales/visit/places-to-visit/blaenavon-ironworks), the Iron Works are well worth a visit to see how the discovery of iron and coal transformed South Wales in the late 18th Century, bringing immigrant labourers and technicians from far and wide to harness the power of steam to blow air into its huge blast furnaces. The ruined furnaces are still visible today alongside the impressive remains of the foundry, cast house and water balance tower that raised wagons 80 feet into the air. you can also explore how the workers lived through the authentically furnished cottages and the recreated ‘truck shop’ where they spent their meagre wages.

Former Industrial Site which is now a Museum in Blaenavon Wales. The Ironworks was of crucial importance in the development of the ability to use cheap, low quality, high sulphur iron ore worldwide. The Ironworks which commenced production in 1789, is the best preserved blast furnace complex of its period and type in the world and is one of the most important monuments to have survived from the early part of the Industrial Revolution.
