My personal favorite restaurant. Bon Appetit says, "We probably have one of the best old-school Italian places, Mamma Zu. It's one of those places where you walk in, it's dimly lit, and the menu's on a chalkboard. Everything's flat-out amazing, and they take care down to the minute details of how they prepare the garlic." Opens at 5:30 pm. Go early or be prepared to wait...worth it.

Dingy atmosphere and less than polite staff. The food makes up for it.

Bill Murray's favorite spot to eat in Richmond. Also my favorite spot. The host is rude but the food is amazing. Chalk board menu, no frills. bring your glasses because it's dark, and cash or a check book because they only take Amex. Be prepared to grab your own wine off the shelf. This place is an old old Richmond classic.
