The 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake, also known as the Napier earthquake, occurred at 10:47 am on Tuesday 3 February 1931 devastating the Hawke's Bay region. It remains New Zealand's deadliest natural disaster. From this came Napier's now world famous heritage ... rebuilt in the Art Deco style Napier is now known as the "Art Deco Capital of the World".
