The Dulwich opened in 1817, which makes it the oldest public art gallery in England. It must also be the only gallery in the world with a mausoleum at its heart containing the tombs of its founders. The permanent collection—an impressive array of European old masters and historic British portraits—has an emphasis on quality over quantity. Seek out Guido’s powerful San Sebastian and Rembrandt’s Girl at a Window.
