In 1863, with Henson Wiseman gone to the Dakota's with the Army and Mrs. Wiseman gone to Yankton to get supplies, the Yankton and Santee Sioux Indians attacked and killed 5 of their children. A monument in their honor was erected in 1926. The actual log cabin is located next to the Cedar County Historical Museum in Hartington, NE. While You are in this area--which is near Sportsman's Restaurant along the Missouri River; we would highly recommend stopping to see the monument, and then driving down "Rattlesnake Road"; it is a very picturesque, and very narrow road; but beautiful--especially in the fall.
