The charm of history, on which the whole contemporary world has been walking since the 60s of the last century. Right in the center of our city, the Roman Villa stands today as a testimony of past wonders and as they fly for a new image of Positano, which is affirmed, above all, as a melting pot of art and culture. The tenacity and stubbornness of the Superintendence for the Archaeological Heritage of Salerno, precursor in the discovery and enhancement of the Domus of Positano, have allowed this treasure to come to light, giving concrete proof of the importance of our city over the centuries, crossroads of peoples , civilizations and cultures.

If you love history and arts I suggest visiting the Roman Archaeological Museum of Positano. The marvelous Roman Villa today is a museum in Positano center, near the largest beach, Marina Grande and next to Saint Mary of the Assumption Church. It open to visitors every day (from 11th April to 31st October) from 9.00am to 9.00pm. From November 1st: 10.00am - 4.00pm every day. The guided tour is about 30 minutes and tickets can be purchased online (official website of MaR Positano Villa Romana) or by going to the ticket office at the museum entrance (payment by credit / debit cards only). I suggest always checking official website for more info!

THE ROMAN VILLA OF POSITANO The valley in which Positano is located, with its beach, its steep limestone cliffs and its salubrious climate, witnessed the establishment of a sumptuous roman villa designed for “otium” – leisure time – at the end of the 1st century BC. As part of the Sorrento area , it was one of a number of luxury villas which may have become desirable when Tiberius retired to the island of Capri in 26 AD. Only a sector has so far been excavated of the Roman residential villa, discovered under the oratory of the Chiesa di SS. Maria Assunta with extraordinary mosaics, frescos and findings.
