Koli hills became famous by E. Järnefelt (1863 - 1937) landscapes of Koli National Park, and are just in walking distance. Of course you can as well come close to the Koli hills by car (big parking space marked with signs just below Koli hills). However, here comes my hiking suggestion: Start to go to Peiponpelto 1,8 km. There is a small parking lot if you want to save time you can park your car there. Then you continue to walk uphill on little path to Ikolanaho 0,7 km. There you decide if you want to hike straight to Ukko-Koli 2,6 km or pass via Mäkravaara (Mäkra hill) making the trip nearly 1 hour longer (but definitely worth it with beautiful views on Lake Pielinen and Lake Jero!).
