This is a pretty local walk. The air is heavily scented with wild roses, and there is much wildlife along the way. I'd highly recommend it for a beginner. There is a little waterfall and stream about a 1/2 mile in from Lakes Road on the Appalachian Trail between Monroe and Greenwood Lake. Highly recommend wear close toed shoes and watch out for the wildlife.

With an easy access point from Greenwood Lake, the hike to Fitzgerald Falls is a local favorite. Take Lakes Rd to just past Greenwood Lake Middle School. The trail head will be on the right.
