The building of the Budapest Operetta Theatre (Budapesti Operettszínház) in Nagymező Street was designed by the Viennese studio Fellner and Helmer. Director Miklós Gábor Kerényi manages a true musical theatre here, with Hungarian operettas and contemporary musicals on the repertoire in addition to the historical-literary musicals aimed at the younger generation. The 500 performances in front of 400 000 guests each year make this one of the most frequented theatres of Hungary. The air-conditioned auditorium seats 901 persons and is quite popular in the circle of foreigners, so the operettas are subtitled in German, while the musicals are subtitled in English.
