Whether you hike or drive to the top of this amazing sight, it is not something to pass by. With the Mile High Bridge and the amazing vistas, your breath will be taken away. One man that worked there said his favorite thing to do, was to go up on a really clear evening in January, after dark, and he could see the lights of Charlotte twinkling in the distance.

Grandfather mountain is a day trip distance from Blowing Rock, but worth the trip. The swinging bridge can get crowded so going first thing when it opens is a solid way to beat the crowds. We have found that spending lunchtime at the zoo works for us - pack a lunch and eat “with” the bears! Note that this park does charge an entrance fee.
