Most of Fitzroy’s oldest pubs were first licensed in the mid-1860s –The Napier, The STANDARD HOTEL and The Marquis of Lorne to name a few – and it’s a credit to those pubs and their dedicated operators that they’re still among the best in the suburb. Fitzroy’s pubs – like all good pubs – play a strong role in the local community. The Workers Club and The Evelyn host gigs featuring up-and-comers alongside established acts; gastropubs such as The Rose and Andrew McConnell’s Builders Arms serve as both meeting places and affordable fine-diners; and party pubs such as The Rochester just bring the good vibes. Location of our Local : Just a short stroll along Fitzroy st heading in the direction of the city - less than 90seconds from Greeves St.

Not actually on Brunswick St but definitely worth a mention is The Standard at 293 Fitzroy St. “Hard to Find, Easy to Love”, this character rich old-school pub has been serving Fitzroy for an eternity. Pull up a pew in the leafy beer garden while tucking into their impressive gastro pub menu. A huge array of beers on tap, plus a roll call of live music to treat your ears.

A local classic. This is the pub life of the last 80 years of Fitzroy writ large. Music on Sunday nights, Trivia on Tuesdays, open fires in winter and beer garden in summer. You really can't stay in Fitzroy without at least one pub meal here.

Classic Fitzroy pub with fabulous beer garden. They often have live music, and play the footy in the front bar if you are that way inclined.
