Check out the Donner Memorial State Park for history on the area and the famous Donner Party that fatefully traveled through here. There are also great hikes that take you around Donner Lake in the summer.

This state park is great! There's a main museum which is full of great and easy-to-access information. The grounds are beautiful and great for picnics, hiking, kayaking, inner-tubing, boating, and swimming!

Donner Lake is a beautiful little lake, totally different from Lake Tahoe and every bit as fun to visit. The state park is a great way to see it. Bring towels, a picnic, and a dog if you have one.
