Know as Butte, America or The Festival City - both are appropriate. The Folk Festival (2nd weekend in July) is not to be missed with performers from around the WORLD. Many great eateries, breweries, and historic sites. A Blue Collar town. Those big structures on the hill are Headframes that operated lifts into a mile of underground mining tunnels.

Helena is the capital and worth visiting just for that reason. It feels like a place movers and shakers would live. Too many places to recommend a visit to . . . but Last Chance Gulch walking mall, the State Historic Museum, and cable car tours are at the top of the list.

Montana Territorial Capital with lots of original buildings and collections. Very rustic and geared toward summer visitation. Nevada City is a recreated town of original buildings that specializes in historic reenactments.

The stack on the hill is the largest free-standing masonry structure in the world. Try Barclays II for a great steak Montana style. Can't go wrong with Donavan's or Haufbrau either for drinks and family dining.
