Sightseeing

Kala Top and Khajjiar are not the places to visit, they are places to stay. Both of them boasting of those typical guest houses. The one you see actors boasting as their houses in lootera and 1942- A love story. It's important to be at these places at appropriate time. And believe me both the places are walkable though the milestone may read 10 and 22 kms respectively. Its awesome to reach kalatop by evening for a short jungle trail that leads to the guest house followed by a Bonfire (on advance request). It's advisable to have breakfast ( maggi ) at the local shop by guesthouse's periphery and then push off to Khajjiar and yes trekking. This trek takes you up to a hill called "DianKund" for those eerie wails that wind howls while cutting through the trees which got this hill its name. No worries this hill is as well a valley of flowers and not a disguised Hansel and Gretel trail. The most pleasant and soothing trek i've done so far and totally appropriate for novices. Reach Khajjiar by evening and explore it both in night after dinner( to catch on those shooting stars and figuring out earth as spheroid) and early morning to see why is it called mini Switzerland. Kalatop and Khajjiar are actually a part of bear wildlife sanctuary.Watch out ! i encountered one here itself. Khajjiar is named on a snake which the locals feel lives in the pond in the meadow and having an archaic temple dedicated to it. Also this area has a typical plant that figures like a snake

Dalhousie is again a site for Tibetan refugees. This is nothing like McLeod which is a Tibetan headquarter. Apart from the usual Tibetan Market and a Gonpa Dalhousie has a Tibetan handicraft center where they still hand knot the thread on looms very traditionally to make those prayer carpets.

sadar bazaar

Take a Stroll in Sadar Bazzar. One of the oldest localities of dalhousie. This is very favourite of all the movies 1942- A love story, Dil Se, Gadar, The Blue Umbrella, Lootera. Though this ain't no market it just a residential locality wihich still dawns a british raj look. It as well holds the post office for those souvenir postcards. Best time to walk through is early morning when you'll find the bazaar to yourself.

walking alleys

There are numerous named walking avenues apart from the famous figure of Eight walk (garam and thandi sadak). Walking ain't boring and rain doesn't always plays a spoil sport. So sit wheresoever you are and watch those clouds just pass by, hear the rain tapping and just be no one. The others one being the Upper Bakrota mall ( aka Tagore's boyhood walk), The kipling's brewery walk ( towards panjpulla), Bose's health walk ( towards jandrighat), canadian cottage walk ( slips right next from bus stand), The nehru walk ( steep climb from GPO to Bakrota crossing tibetan settlement).
