On your way to Ocracoke you will pass through Pea Island. It is federal land open to everyone but totally undeveloped. Be aware they are working on the Oregon inlet bridge so there will be travel delays

Pea Island hosts great surf, great fishing, drive on the beach with a permit you can get online or in person. Kayak site casting has been excellent recently.
