The museum’s new Screens Series shows films by internationally acclaimed filmmakers like Apichatpong Weerasethakul and one of my favorites, indie director Abel Ferrara. There’s also a great calendar of film symposia and discussions with an eye on how cinema fits into the world of visual art, which is very inspiring. General admission is $18 or $12 for students. On Thursdays between 7 pm and 9 pm, you can pay what you wish. The suggested minimum is $2.

Designed by Pritzker prize winning SANAA, the New Museum is right around the corner from the apt and has fantastic contemporary art collection and amazing views from the top floor! Not to be missed!
Great Museum in the Lower East Side featuring new exhibits year round of world renowned artists.
As the only contemporary art museum in Manhattan, the New Museum prides itself on its mission of showcasing new art and new ideas created by artists from around the world. Founded in 1977 by Marcia Tucker, a former curator at the Whitney Museum of Art, the eight-level museum is a work of art itself…
This is actually also the location of the New Musuem, but the attached store is pretty cool, too.

“The Tenement Museum If you're interested in the architecture of lower manhattan I highly recommend their walking/architectural tours - I've worked and lived in the lower east side for over 10 years, and after my first tour I was embarrassed by how little I knew about the amazingly rich history of the neighborhood. I enjoyed the first one so much that I've taken 3 more since then, and I learn something new (actually many new somethings) each time!”

“It has two screens, both a state-of-the-art digital projector and an old 35mm reel-to-reel. The expertly curated films often form series on subjects such Japanese animation studio Ghibli or provocateur Gasper Noé”

“Come on a weekday morning and have a quick breakfast before stopping in. Don't forget to talk a walk on the high line in the evening so you can see the sunset on the Hudson”
