The Beautiful Lakewood Cemetery contains a chapel built to resemble Hagia Sophia in Istanbul and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At 250 acres, it provides a big enough place to stroll away from the maddening crowds of Uptown.

It's a cemetery, and it ain't Pere Lachaise, but it's nice, fairly large, and very well kept. It's really great for walks.

10 million interior mosaic pieces called tessellate, from marble, colored stone, & glass fused with gold. Interior Byzantine mosaic design based on the interior of the San Marco Cathedral in Venice.

This historic cemetery is truly beautiful. The Lakewood Chapel, is all mosaic. Gorgeous. The reflecting pool and mausoleum and the grounds are relaxing, quiet, and historic. People are encouraged to walk here quietly. It is a truly wonderful place to walk and look and take in history.
