Jacksonville's oldest resident - the Treaty Oak dates back to 1822. It’s believed to be the oldest live oak tree in Jacksonville and is just as old, if not older, than the city itself. A journalist dispersed a fictitious story about a peace treaty signed under its canopy in order to save the tree, and it worked. The tree was protected, and the name stuck!
The coolest BIGGEST tree I have ever seen in my life. It's downtown so not convenient (not near the beach) and if you happen to go downtown, stop by for an awe-inspiring view.
The Treaty Oak is an octopus-like Southern live oak in Jacksonville, Florida. The tree is estimated to be 250 years old and may be the single oldest living thing in Jacksonville, predating the founding of the city by Isaiah Hart during the 1820s
