The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is the largest protected area in the Caribbean. Located in the state of Quintana Roo, south of the Mayan site of Tulum occupies an area of 15% of the state's surface. The great variety of fauna and flora captured Unesco's attention that declared Natural Heritage to the Sian Ka'an World Biosphere Reserve (in Mayan Gate of Heaven) in 1987. The landscape varies from the coast where semi-virgin beaches alternate with A landscape of mangroves in the lagoon. Among the dense vegetation of petenes (islands of motley vegetation that grow thanks to the freshwater springs that spring from the bottom) hide jaguars, crocodiles, manatees, pumas, spider monkeys, turtles or a host of birds, among many other animals. Being near the Riviera Maya and the Tulum ruins is one of the most common excursions to enjoy the dense vegetation and nature of the Caribbean coast.

World Heritage Site, nothing short of breathtaking. Well worth an excursion out to Bird Island, all birds of Western Hemisphere nest here. Also the ride out on the lagoon allows us to remember the all encompassing beauty that nature has to offer.
