There’s nothing better than hitting the road (or ferry) and heading to New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern, The Riverhead. It has a lot to offer, depending on your needs. The Landing Restaurant serves up brunch, lunch, dinner and dessert, The Portage is your neighbourhood bar, serving good old fashioned pub grub, and The Boat House is available for functions for that all important next event.

Stunning views across Riverhead, this iconic tavern has been renovated a couple of years ago, and really makes the most of its riverside location. Sit outside under the old Oak Trees - it really is a lovely spot. While the menu at restaurant is quite pricey, it is lovely. That said, our preference is to order from the bar and sit on the deck over the weekend - the prices are better, and there is nearly always some live music on a Sunday afternoon. Great pizzas and sliders on the menu !!

Nestled on the shores of the upper Waitemata, The Riverhead is steeped in local history and played a part in the development of early New Zealand, with thousands using the wharf and hotel as the gateway to lands in the north prior to the completion of roads and railway. In 2010 this grand old lady was extensively renovated and reopened in 2011, with new emphasis on providing a truly memorable hospitality experience, serving fresh New Zealand food with flair, great beers, local wines and good coffee. While these reno
