Georgetown Canal Plan Developed with the National Park Service, Georgetown Heritage, and the DC Office of Planning the plan cultivates a section of the canal in Georgetown into a premier active, flexible, and sustainable urban park.

Rent a bike from any of several bike-rental outfits in DC and take a ride from Georgetown up the canal. Path goes all the way to Harpers Ferry WV but you'll find tons of interesting places in 20 mins.

One of Washington DC's iconic landmark. A great promenade that goes all the way to Maryland. One of my favorite jogging trails.

Best for hiking, biking. 188 miles from DC to PawPaw WV. Get on and off at nearby places. Closest entrance in Hancock, MD. The Rails to Trails that runs parallel to canal is paved for about 25 miles. See lots of nature on these trails.

The C & O canal tow path has been converted into a 180 miles bike path from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD. Great for biking without cars along the lovely Potomac River.
