Hands down best modern Greek food. Gorgeous restaurant and guaranteed a great night. You can stroll along James Street before hand to soak up the buzz.

If The Calile is the heartbeat of Brisbane, Hellenika is the heartbeat of The Calile! Founded in 2010 in Nobbys Beach, Gold Coast (owners sold that property in 2019), Hellenika quickly became known as the locals' spot. Located on the Pool Deck, this is Brisbane. Just like their sister restaurant, SK Steak & Oyster, produce is key. Both venues fly their seafood up daily and Hellenika has a daily fish page that is second to none. Hellenika is one of the few venues that has space for walk-ins as the tables at the poolside are weather dependant. Pop in, put your name on the waiting list and they'll be in touch when your table is ready. They also offer a limited menu between lunch & dinner and remain open all afternoon for drinks. A DJ is playing tunes throughout the weekend to ensure you feel all the vibes.

Fancy sipping on spritzes and sharing saganaki by the pool? You don’t have to jetset to the Greek Islands – Brisbane’s very own urban resort The Calile Hotel has you sorted. Much-loved Nobby Beach eatery Hellenika has opened a sibling venue in Brisbane, serving at the hotel’s signature poolside restaurant. Making your way up to the pool deck, you’ll be greeted in Hellenika’s breezy olive tree-lined alfresco terrace overlooking the glistening waters of the resort’s pool. Those waiting for a table can take a seat at the bar or recline poolside in a cabana – you can even stay there to enjoy your meal if you so desire. Starters and small plates of kalamata olive-topped taramasalata, grilled saganaki, veal dolmades wrapped in silverbeet and Hellenika’s famous kolokithia zucchini chips will certainly get you feeling like you’re grazing in the Greek Islands. Larger share options include flaky spanakopita, eggplant moussaka, chicken souvlakia and 1.2-kg classic baked lamb shoulder. The 450-plus bottle wine list, with an impressive selection of Greek drops, will offer something new to try with each visit, but if you’ve opted to eat in a cabana, we highly suggest you do so with a cocktail in hand. You can start your day the right way with a big Greek breakfast, as the kitchen serves up morning fare from 6:30–10:00 am daily – think caramelised fresh grapefruit with sweet Greek yoghurt, spanakopita, the Eggs with Eggs with Eggs (boiled eggs, taramasalata, salmon peals and toast), or The Onassis, with streaky bacon, loukanika (Greek sausages), olive-oil fried eggs, fresh tomato, a lamb cutlet and toast.
