Fantastic national Forest Park/campground just a mile away but I'd recommend driving there. Very large campground had lots of amenities and is open for day use without a fee last time I checked. You may have to park outside the entrance though depending on the season. There are a couple trailheads here with a variety of hikes and views ranging from very level and easy to more advanced.

2.8 miles from Summit Cabin. They have great, family friendly hiking trails.

It's a campground but also has a few hiking trails that offers really nice views.
