Monteagle Assembly was patterned after the Chautauqua Institution of New York in the late 19th century. While there were hundreds of similar communities nationally, today only a few remain. An 1882 charter states the MSSA was formed for "the advancement of science, literary attainment, Sunday School interests, and the promotion of the broadest popular culture in the interest of Christianity without regard to sect or denomination." Great original buildings throughout this timeless property.
