Small seaside village with cozy fish restaurants, a promenade and natural pools. Grab a bus from Las Palmas for a direct ride (1 hr)

Near the harbor there are a bunch of restaurants that offer all kinds of seafood. Don't forget to try "gofio escaldado", which is a local dish. And because you are on the Canarian Islands Papas arrugadas con mojo aswell ;-)

The port town of Agaete, on the north-west coast of the island of Gran Canaria, is not your average resort town. Steeped in history, Agaete’s origins date back to even before the Spanish Christian conquerors disembarked on the island in the 15th century. Its ancestral roots are just as old as the neighbouring ancient burial site of Maipés necropolis, one of the most important archaeological sites on the island. Mingle with the hospitable and friendly chanos, the name given to Gran Canaria islanders, as you wander the picturesque streets lined with dazzling whitewashed houses and wrapped in the sultry smell of coffee coming out of inviting coffee shops and restaurants. Situated just 32 km north from Las Palmas, Agaete is nestled in a dramatic natural setting, surrounded by lush meadows and plunging volcanic rock cliffs. Read on to discover the best this tiny enclave has to offer. What to see in Agaete Get your walking shoes ready because the best way to explore the town is by foot! Start at the town’s central square, Plaza de la Constitución and admire the town’s lovely main church, Iglesia de la Concepción. It only dates back to 1875, but actually stands on the site where a much older church once stood before being burnt down in a devastating fire.

AGAETE & PUERTO DE LAS NIEVES In just half an hour by car (or bus) along the northwest coast you arrive to Agaete, a very suggestive village whose small harbour ( Puerto de las Nieves) is the ideal place for a fish based lunch in one of the typical restaurants. Not far from the port 10 minutes by foot, you can have a bath in the famous natural water pools. The landscape is very suggestive and different from the southern locations (chose a sunny day as the water may be a bit cold). - If you go by car and you like wild beaches you can drive 10 minutes more from Agaete, direction south along the coast, and enjoy a couple of hours in Guayedra Beach (please take water and food with you). - On the way back from Agaete you can make a short stop in the city of ARUCAS, famous for its Cathedral.
