Located in the mountainous village of Lefkes, the Church of Agia Triada is a Byzantine temple of unique architectural importance. Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, the church is the second largest on the island and was originally established on the previous location of three smaller ones (Agia Anna, Analipsi and Agios Georgios). The construction operations began in 1830 and were completed in 1835. The impressive church belongs to the basilica type, with a three-aisle pattern, including skillfully fashioned arches. The bell towers, on the left and the right side accordingly are delightful examples of architectural mastery.

In the mountainous centre of Paros, Lefkes is a gorgeous village settled on the slope at a height of 300 metres. You can take a tour with your own two feet on little alleys and pine-shaded squares with tavernas and traditional bakeries. The Agia Triada Church, built from fine Parian marble and flanked by two majestic belfries, is a good place to begin and has some invaluable Byzantine icons. On the streets you’ll see a couple of washhouses, which are still used by a few inhabitants, while the slopes above the villages are sprinkled with windmills.

Λεύκες font size   Print  Share Ιερός ναός Αγίας Τριάδας (19ος μ.Χ.) Ο ναός της Αγίας Τριάδας είναι ο δεύτερος μεγαλοπρεπέστερος στην Πάρο, μετά την Εκατονταπυλιανή. Θεμελιώθηκε το 1830, σε σημείο που βρίσκονταν τρεις παλιότεροι μικροί ναοί, της Ανάληψης, του Αγίου Γεωργίου και της Αγίας Άννας. Αποπερατώθηκε, στη σημερινή του μορφή, το 1835. Πρόκειται για τρίκλιτη βασιλική, με υπερυψωμένο και αμφικλινές το μεσαίο κλίτος, το οποίο σκεπάζεται από κεραμοσκεπή. Υπερυψωμένα, δεξιά και αριστερά από την κεντρική πύλη, δεσπόζουν δύο επιβλητικά μαρμάρινα κωδωνοστάσια, εξαιρετικό δείγμα δουλειάς από επιδέξιους μαρμαρογλύπτες. Μαρμάρινοι είναι και οι τέσσερις διπλοί κίονες που στηρίζουν το πρόπυλο του ναού. Στην εσωτερική του πλευρά βρίσκονται οι τρεις πύλες. Πάνω από την κεντρική υπάρχει κεραμική απεικόνιση της Αγίας Τριάδος, έργο της γνωστής αγγειογράφου Βιργινίας Κυδωνιέως. Μπαίνοντας στον ναό, θα δείτε το κεντρικό κλίτος που σκεπάζεται από καμάρα και τα ακριανά με σταυροθόλια. Τα κλίτη χωρίζονται από δύο σειρές με τέσσερις μαρμάρινους κίονες. Μαρμάρινο είναι και το τέμπλο, με σκαλίσματα, δείγμα μεγάλης τέχνης Τηνιακού μαρμαρογλύπτη. Ενδιαφέρουσες και οι αγιογραφίες στο εσωτερικό, από αγιογράφους του 19ου αιώνα. Ο ναός της Αγίας Τριάδας είναι μνημείο που έχει κριθεί διατηρητέο από το υπουργείο Πολιτισμου
