One of the most famous areas of the city is the Malecón, official name Malecón Fundadores. This lively area connects the rich history of Puerto Peñasco with today's new culture. Featuring the vast fishing boats that have been coming and going for more than 80 years, a visit here must be on your list. There are dozens of bars, restaurants, and shops throughout the area that can't be missed. It's a particularly busy area during holidays, especially Semana Santa. When it comes to parking, it's pretty easy to find a spot along the street unless it is a busy holiday week or weekend. Parking is also available in a lot towards the entrance of the Malecon that charges $5 for safe and convenient parking.

The "pier" is located in the heart of Old Port. The seaside corridor is lined with local shops, restaurants, bars and the famous Fish Market. The Plaza offers picturesque views, live music, mariachi bands, art and parades. According to legend, American gangster Al Capone often visited this sleepy fishing village during the days of prohibition. It is presumed he stayed at The Penasco Hotel, now named Hotel la Roca, in the Malecon.
