さゝま Sasama

Founded in 1931, this long-running establishment makes a square wagashi cake filled with red bean paste, featuring a pine tree branded on the top. This sweet is so soft that it can’t be properly packed unless a true craftsman is doing it. The inside of the store is very much a throwback to another time, and is also surprisingly big. You can eat on one of the benches right outside of the store, but I recommend you walk around the Jimbocho neighborhood and take in all the old bookstores. It’s a really pretty area.
