I think a day trip to Waiheke Island is worth it. It's only 40 minutes away and yet has such a different feel to Auckland. Loads of great wineries. Some of our favourites are Cable Bay, Mudbrick, Tantalist, Pedero Cristi. A walk along Onetangi Beach is lovely and stop off at Palm Beach and Oneroa.

Waikeke is a lovely day trip or for longer - excellent restaurants, wine tasting, zip lining, walks etc. The ferry ride over is enjoyable on its own.
