Hike the Appalachian Trail just 20 minutes away! There’s a small gravel lot for this trailhead along Highway 76, the main road between Hiawassee and Clayton. If you only have time to hike in one direction, south is recommended - less than 3 miles in, there’s a “vista” sign leading to a beautiful overlook on Powell Mountain.

Around the Bend is just 0.6 miles away from Dicks Creek Gap on the Appalachian Trail. The trailhead is where the parking lot is on the side of the road.

A slightly more strenuous hike for experienced hikers of the Appalachian Trail. The trail heads north towards North Carolina to the east and connects to Unicoi gap to the south. Within a 25 minute drive from the cabin.

This is a moderate 5 mile round trip hike to Powell Mountain. Going southbound from Dicks Creek Gap 5.2 miles and climbing to stunning views of Lake Burton from the summit of Powell Mountain.
