Apalachicola Florida is a warm, welcoming port town bursting with hometown charm, friendly folks and rich maritime history. Nestled on the mouth of the Apalachicola River, this small coastal city is home to bustling seafood houses, weather-worn shrimp boats and stately historical buildings. The name "Apalachicola" is a combination of the Hitchoti Indian words "apalahchi," meaning "on the other side," and "okli," meaning "people.” However, Apalachicola locals will tell you it means "land of the friendly people.” As soon as you set foot in this genial small town, you’ll understand why. Take a trip back in time to old Florida with tons of shops, microbreweries and restaurants. A really neat place to spend the day.

Take a looooong drive (approx 2 +hr) down what is called the “forgotten coast” to a place that Tim McGraw sings about. Don't be fooled by the sleepy town appeal as it is very popular for those that know about it. Stop in and grab what is tapping at Oyster City Brewing Company or take a golf cart trolly tour of the city and its history. Side note: if you like gulf oysters, they are most likely from here. Plan for an all-day experience and head home just before sunset and catch some awesome views on your way back!

Part of the "forgotten coast", Apalachicola offers a Colonial Coastal throwback to when life was simple. Multiple breweries now call this town home, with restaurants for every foodie. Its a wonderful day trip and one we highly recommend.
