Museum
“Seikatei was built by the Hokkaido Development Commission in 1889 as a reception hall for the distinguished guests. The Emperor Meiji visited here during his trip to Sapporo in 1881. The building features both Japanese and Western style. It is located in Kairakuen park, the oldest park in Sapporo. Unlike the other historical buildings in Sapporo, such as the Sapporo Clock Tower and Hoheikan, Seikatei still stands its original place.”

Museum
“The Hokkaido University Museum is just a 10-minute walk from the North Exit of Sapporo Station and admission is free. Among the buildings on the Hokkaido University campus, the museum exudes a formidable presence and sense of history. The museum has a number of must-see exhibits, including a huge skeleton of a Holstein bull and a life-sized mock-up of a woolly mammoth. In addition to specimens, the museum exhibits many intriguing instruments as well, such as a seismograph, which will even respond to light footsteps, an interactive exhibit room where you can touch specimens, and the museum laboratory where you can see research taking place.”

Point of Interest
“Hoheikan is the only hotel ever built by the Meiji government, and was opened in 1881 on the occasion of Emperor Meiji’s visit to Sapporo. Built using traditional Japanese techniques, it is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan for its architecture representative of the early Meiji period. Originally located around present day Odori Park 1-chome, the building was relocated to its current site in Nakajima Park in 1958. Since then, the building has become a familiar sight to Sapporo locals and was utilized as a wedding venue. It was reopened as a civic exchange center after the completion of its restoration in June 2016.”

Bar
“BAR YAMAZAKI is an establishment of long-standing, a truly iconic bar in Sapporo that is loved by the locals and famous even outside of the city because it offers outstanding drinks in the quaintest atmosphere there is. The bar was established and managed for over 50 years by the legendary bartender Yamazaki Ichiro who had won several international prizes for his cocktails. He, unfortunately, passed away in 2016 at the age of 96 while still being actively involved at his bar. Although Mr Yamazaki is no longer with us, his apprentices still serve his cocktail in Yamazaki's signature style. They have plenty of standards and many originals too. The price for one drink is about ¥1,000 to ¥1,500 ”
