This statue of two lovers is risen because of an awesome story. Ali Khan Shirvanshir, the male descendant of a royal Muslim family, falls in love with the beautiful Nino Kipiani, a Georgian princess who is Christian, while he is in Azerbaijan during World War I.

The statue depicts eternal love and understanding between nations. It was named after the ‘Ali and Nino’ novel by an Azerbaijani author using the pseudonym Kurban Said. It tells a story of a young Muslim Azerbaijani man and a Georgian Christian princess in time of the First World War. The eight metre statues, of a man and a woman are the work of Georgian sculptor Tamar Kvesitadze. Both statues move, changing their position every 10 minutes, until they become one. At night the sculptures are lit with changing colours, a magnetically beautiful sight.

Ali & Nino, also known as the ‘Statue of Love’, the metal sculpture was created in 2010 by Georgian artist Tamara Kvesitadze. The two figures, Ali and Nino, come from the pages of Kurban Said’s novel of the same name. You can visit the sculpture any time of day, but it’s best to come at 7pm when the revolving platform starts moving. The two figures slide together, merging for an instant before drifting apart again.
