Want to head into the Bay Area? I recommend relaxing on Amtrak rather than fighting the traffic. Keep in mind that it won't be cheap, but the seats are wide, the cafe car is stocked and the ride is smooooooth. Also note you'll have to connect by BART (at Richmond Station) or bus (at Emeryville Station) if you want to get all the way into SF.
What can I say. When we don't feel like driving to the Bay Area we hop on good ole' fashion Amtrak. I like how Amtrak remodeled the inside of the station is much cleaner and not so disorganized as it used to be.
Head to Amtrak’s Sacramento Valley Station, a 1926 Renaissance Revival train station that just received a major face-lift, and hop the Capitol Corridor train 15 minutes west to the college town of Davis. From the 1913 Mission Revival Davis Station, it’s a 20-minute walk to the new Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
to get to San Francisco, Take the Capitol Corridor to Richmond station and then transfer to the Bart train to continue into SF. if only going to Oakland you can ride Amtrak all the way to Oakland Jack London Square.
