Shopping
Walk 10 minutes in either direction and you'll hit some really cute shops. Temescal is hip and cool, while College Ave is more mature (think refined hippy).
This map shows College in Berkeley, but you'll get the same great independent shops here on the Oakland side if you just walk 10 minutes down Hudson Street and make a left. Bookstores, clothing, shoes, kids stuff, house wears, cafes, even a real hardware store!

Bart will get you to SF in 1/2 hour. There are also a number of car-sharing options like Zipcar and Gig parked at the station.
