Sightseeing

Canterbury Cathedral is of course a sight to behold and lovely to walk around and view from the grounds. If you take a river trip you will see some of the historic buildings along the River Stour, whilst hearing all about the historical background of these places in Canterbury, highly recommended and very relaxing in good weather!

Shopping

The Farmers Market or Goods Shed is probably a more unique place to visit in terms of finding locally produced food, veggies, fish and a butcher. The restaurant is relaxed and uses local produce. Around Whitefriars Shopping Centre area, you can find most of the popular shops and outlets found in modern cities. What I like about this area is the good use of a pedestrian-friendly zone, where there are seating areas and tables which are not necessarily for designated cafes, to sit and chat, relax etc. The area around the cathedral has a good selection of eateries and drinkeries! The square in front of the cathedral has some nice shops including a local pottery shop, pub and buskers to listen to

Arts & Culture

The Canterbury Tales is an interesting interactive tour following the writer Chaucer's tales, depicting his pilgrims in costume. I would recommend the Beaney House, which is a gallery, museum and library all in one, with lots of free exhibitions. As for culture in general, the Gulbenkian at the Uni of Kent is a good arts centre with theatre, cinema and cafe. The Marlowe is another well-known theatre by Westgate, frequently hosting some of the biggest shows from the UK and beyond.
