Clementinum Clementinum is the second largest complex of buildings in the metropolis after Prague Castle – covering a total area of 20 000 sq. m. It was at one point in history the third largest Jesuit College in the world, now it is used by the Czech National Library. Certainly see: Astronomical Tower in Clementinum To get to the top of this 52-meter-high tower you have to climb 172 stairs of the steep and winding staircase. At the cupola of the Astronomical Tower is a large lead statue of Atlant holding a globe. The tower was reconstructed several years ago and opened to the public. Besides the original astronomical devices, visitors can admire the splendid view of the city of Prague. The entrance to the Astronomical Tower is near the Mirror Chapel. Baroque Library Hall Beautiful Baroque Library Hall in Prague’s Clementinum is a great example of Baroque library for it hasn’t been changed since its foundation in 1722. It still shows the organization of the library in the times of the Jesuit college in Prague. There are also concerts of classical music in the Mirror Chapel – the name comes from the mirrors with a role to optically enlarge the space Interesting bits: - Until the formation of the Czech Republic in 1918 every day a man with a huge red and white flag and a watch climbed up the Astronomical tower. He waved the flag exactly when his watch showed noon. This was a signal for the artillery, whose shots signalled for the citizens of Prague that they should hurry, unless they wanted to miss their lunch. - Clementinum served as a fortress of students during the 1848 revolution.

Prague's Bethlehem Chapel The Bethlehem Chapel (Betlémská kaple) is a medieval religious building notable for its connection with the origins of the Bohemian Reformation, especially with the Czech reformer Jan Hus. It is a place that brings to mind the personality of Hus and the Hussite period of Czech history. The foundations of the Czech reform movement were lain here over sox hundred years ago. It was founded in 1391 and taught solely in the Czech vernacular, thus breaking with German domination of the Medieval Bohemian church. The building was never officially called a church, only a chapel, though it could contain 3,000 people. Jan Hus became a rector and a preacher in March 1402. After Hus's excommunication in 1412, the Pope ordered the Bethlehem chapel to be pulled down - but this action was rejected by the Czech majority on the Old Town council.

The Charles Bridge (in Czech: Karlův most) is a famous historical bridge that crosses the Vltava river some 200m from your accommodation. Its construction started in 1357 under the auspices of King Charles IV. and finished in the beginning of the 15th century. The bridge was originally called the Stone Bridge or the Prague Bridge but has been the "Charles Bridge" ever since 1870. As the only means of crossing the river Vltava until 1841, the Charles Bridge was the most important connection between Prague Castle and the city's Old Town and adjacent areas. This "solid-land" connection made Prague important as a trade route between Eastern and Western Europe.

Visit the Old Town Hall's Tower to see Prague from "bird's eye view". The tower, which was the highest in the city in the Middle Ages, was completed in 1364 and the following centuries hardly left any traces on the structure. The inherent dominant of Prague is 69.5 metres high and offers one of the most splendid views in the "hundred-spired Prague". You will see not only the historical core of the city, registered on the UNESCO list, but also its suburbs and surroundings in full view. Opening hours: Mon 11.00 - 22.00, Tue - Sun 9.00 - 22.00 Visit the Romanesque-Gothic underground of the Old Town Hall to "step into history". The town hall underground gives insight into the time of the beginning of the Old Town. The city level was then several meters lower than today's level. The city terrain had to be artificially increased due to frequent flooding, so that already in the 13th century the original ground-floors of the houses became undergrounds. The oldest part of the Old Town Hall's underground is the Roman hall from the 2nd half of the 12th century, preserved are also the foundations of the tower, a hundred years younger. Wells and a cisterns for rainwater are located there. Naturally, there used to be prisons under the town hall, two of them can be seen even today. The use of the underground space by prisoners is evidenced by their names engraved on one of the Gothic portals. Opening hours: Mon 11.00 - 18.00, Tue - Sun 9.00 - 18.00

Arts & Culture

It's very easy to miss this one if you aren't looking for it (hint: you have to look up, all the way up). One of David Cerny's interesting sculptures placed around the city. Must be interesting to come across this one if you are unaware of it :)

Beer - it is a drink which Czechs are famous for. And they drink more beer per capita than any other country in the world. That is why it is important to experience the production of Czech beer, learn the history, soak up the scent of hops, and taste various kinds of special Czech beers.

The biggest music club in Central Europe. 5 Floors of Entertainment: mainstream, dance music, oldies, hip hop, chill out, all inclusive area. Open every day: 21:00 – 05:00. Karlovy Lazne is the largest facility of its kind in Central Europe. Thanks to its five music clubs on five separate floors, it is also one of the best technically equipped club’s in the world. The themed floors are one-of-a-kind for their original character, which is further enhanced by the historical interior and architecture of the building built at the turn of the 15th century, which have been preserved. The original mosaic tiling of the hallways and walls, mosaic pictures in the main rooms and partially preserved old spa facilities and pools in the style of Roman baths, which now serve as dance floors (without water of course) on two floors of the club. Together with modern facilities and music to suit all tastes certainly creates an entirely unique atmosphere, which has made Karlovy Lazne one of the most visited dance club’s in the Czech Republic.
