"Hidden beneath an innocent Scottish farmhouse lies Scotland’s Secret Bunker. 2014 marks the 20th anniversary since the Bunker opened to the public, unveiling 40 years of secrets. We invite you to take the journey down the 450 foot tunnel and through the blast doors to discover the secrets of the bunker, which was built to help safeguard Scotland during the Cold War in the event of a nuclear attack.
The Secret Bunker lies 100 feet underground and is the size of two football pitches, one on top of the other. Come and discover how Scotland would have been governed from the depths of Fife and how they would have survived a nuclear attack from the most deadly bombs!"

The castle was home to the famous Cardinal Beaton, Scotland's protonotary apostolic and persecutor of the protestant martyrs.
King James I (1406-1437) received part of his education from Bishop Henry Wardlaw, the founder of St Andrews University, at the castle.
King James II of Scotland (1437-1460) often visited his trusted adviser, Bishop James Kennedy, there.
In 1445 the castle became the birthplace of King James III.
