Parks & Nature

Park Laurier, across from the apartment, is a very popular place to hang out with friends. You are allowed to BBQ and drink alcohol in the park. Montreal is one of the few places in Canada where drinking is allowed in parks, however, the only condition is that you must have food with you (i.e. having a picnic). Most people don't bring food at all (only alcohol) and never have any problems, but please be warned that you should have food with you if you bring alcohol to the park. Laurier Park also has free wifi, a swimming pool (free on weekdays), a dog park, hammock area, pingpong tables, baseball/soccer fields, etc. There are also 3-4 outdoor skating rinks in the winter.

Food Scene

Fine French cuisine, only a few minutes away. It's a bit pricey at around 22-30 dollars per plate, but you can bring your own wine which saves you a lot of money. It's a very popular place so you will want to make a reservation as soon as possible.

Said to be one of the best sushi restaurants in Montreal. The restaurant itself is small so it's best to make a reservation if you want to eat in the restaurant. However, it's just a 3-5 minute walk from the apartment, so you could always order take out. FYI: They don't sell alcohol at this place.

Shopping

Avenue du Mont-Royal (just a short walk away) is Montreal's second most popular street, after Sainte- Catherine Street. Unlike Sainte Catherine's, this avenue is used more by locals and will give you a taste of the "real" Montreal. This is a avenue where you can find almost everything, including shopping, restaurants and night life. Almost all of Avenue du Mont-Royal (both east and west) is great to explore, however, I would advise starting on the corner with Papineau Street and head west.
