Getting Around
Easy to walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station to Craigwell Cottage. Just find the Marks and Spencer Simply Food store, then head past there to the steps at the end of the platform which lead to the Calton Road Exit from Waverley Station. Once you have gone down steps to Calton Road, turn right (slightly downhill) and walk under the railway bridge, keeping to the left side of the road. You will find Nether Craigwell, a red sandstone building with green balconies and woodwork. Head through the archway and Craigwell Cottage is just to the right.

Edinburgh public bus service route 35 runs from Edinburgh Airport and travels down the Royal Mile, turning up Abbeyhill. If you are travelling to Craigwell Cottage this is the lowest cost way of getting here from Edinburgh Airport, but the trade-off is that it takes around 1 hour 15 minutes - 1 hour 30 minutes dependent on traffic. Get off at the first stop after you pass the Scottish Parliament. The stop is called Queen Mary's Bathhouse! Parks & Nature
While you are staying in Craigwell Cottage you will be able to see people walking on top of Salisbury Crags from the living room window of the cottage. It's just a few minutes walk over to Holyrood Park where you will see the path leading up to Salisbury Crags. You can either take the "Radical Road" at the base of the crags, or opt for higher ground and walk along the top of the Crags. Either way, you'll see great views of the city of Edinburgh. You can continue your walk and take in Arthur's Seat too if you're feeling adventurous.

Calton HillCalton Hill is the very first public park in Edinburgh. You'll find it an easy climb up from Regent Road, either by steps or by taking the roadway which winds round the back of the hill. Up there are the National Monument, Nelson Monument (which you can visit and climb for a small fee); Dugald Stewart Monument; also the original Edinburgh Observatory and lots of great viewpoints to see the whole city. Cafe where families gather and more adult restaurant in the John Hope Gateway building, where there is also a changing programme of exhibitions. Often events on, especially during Festival times (Science Festival and Fringe Festival in particular).

Try delicious smoked salmon, fine cheeses, oatcakes, shortbread and much more besides. They also stock a range of high quality Scottish crafts and souvenirs to take home or give as gifts to friends.

Vino at the Arches has an extensive range of beers, wines and spirits. We first visited on a Scottish Beer Tours tour of the Old Town, and got to taste some of the unusual speciality beers they have on offer. Well worth a visit and knowledgeable staff.

Open to the public and guided tours available daily. The gardens are also worth a visit. This is where the annual garden party hosted by the queen every year takes place.
