Sightseeing

Take the train up to the Mer de Glace and see the stunning views and the glacier and the ice cave/grotto. A clear indication of the precarious nature our mountain glacial systems are in due to climate change as you can see the substantial retreat of the glacier.

Refurbished before the 2016 ski season this is a bar for skiers and locals. Next to Moo and Cambre Neuf you are in the thick of the apres ski area for bars.

Craft brewing has been around for a while in Chamonix with the likes of MBC, but Beer O'Clock is a new addition. They have a top-up card system where you can "Pay as you pour" and sample a good selection of beers. Soft drinks and spirits for your friends that aren't in to beer too.

Main supermarket in town. Best to drive to, just double back out the way you came from Geneva on the main highway. Wider selection and cheaper. Don't forget to bring some reusable shopping bags.

Amazing pizza. Can't stop going here and getting loyalty stamps. The pizzeria looks like an old train carriage. In winter best for takeaway, in summer eat outdoors on the benches out front.

The service can be typically French here, but the food is great and the atmosphere is fantastic if you're in a group and keen for some music and don't mind speaking up over the buzz from the rest of the dining room.
