Walk down to the end of this street to Landsdowne Reserve and the beach/sandspit to watch kitesurfers, waterskiing, or go for a swim yourself. Looks across water. Just 5 minutes walk from our place.

Nice social tidal beach at the bottom of the driveway, with clifftop backdrop, looking across to Bayswater Marina and Harbour Bridge. Great place for chilling and swimming on a sunny day.

You can swim here at low tide. Popular local beach - 40 mins walk, or 7 minute drive. Cafe and icecream shop by the beach and playground + park. Great views of gulf and islands.

Walk down the cliffside to this funky little beach and blowhole. At high tide you can swing into the sea from a rope hanging from a Pohutakawa tree. A quieter option to the popular surrounding bays.

Explore tunnels and bunkers at this naval defense base atop a headland that is now a historic location. Further, pop down the hill to Cheltenham Beach for a swim or stroll, or Torpedo Bay Navy Museum.

Devonport is like a small town in a city. Highly recommend. Explore history, culture, and the arts here. Restaurants, bars, cafes, shops. Good fun and upbeat. Family feeling. Looks across to Auckland.

Parks & Nature

Old, beautiful sloping cemetery surrounded by sea, trees, and life. From here you walk to the cycle path bridge in the direction of Takapuna. This is 10-15 mins walk from our home.

Nice tidal beach. Long and narrow. At low tide you can walk right out to the channel! Handy to Devonport and North Head, with cafes and restaurants and icecream stores nearby.

Getting Around

This is where you catch the ferry from. The ferry staff are personable - true kiwis. If you're running late for the ferry (if it hasn't left) start running once you see it, they usually wait for you!

Everything Else

Lake Pupuke is a freshwater lake left over from a volcanic explosion. Here you can relax in the park, eat at the lakeside cafe, feed ducks and swans, jump off the wharf, or watch a local production.

Takapuna is finally a place I would recommend going to. They have developed it significantly in the last few years, to make the most of the beach and location. Visit Lake Pupuke + shopping + wine/dine
