Local interest and discovery

Here are some suggestions of things not to be missed during your visit
The obvious first place of interest but do climb the Tor for amazing 360 degree views that are always changing with the seasons and the time of day. Use the path from the bottom of Wellhouse Lane, nearest parking is at the Drapers factory, about 200 yards away, just over the main road from Glastonbury to Shepton Mallet.

Steeped in history and in 36 acres of beautiful, expansive, grounds, the Abbey is (allegedly) the last resting place of Arthur and Guinevere... There are a good variety of events through the year as well and you can find all you need to know on the abbey website.

The wellhouse sits on the ley line known as the Michael line and is a fascinating place to visit whether your interest is architectural or spiritual.

Wells Cathedral is set in the medieval heart of England’s smallest city and is the earliest English Cathedral to be built in the Gothic style. The cathedral is a really impressive building regardless of your faith or otherwise and is part of the very impressive architecture of Wells generally. Don't miss the clock inside striking the hour and consider visiting The Bishops Palace next door too.

Like a minature version of Glastonbury Tor, Burrow Mump is a hill and historic site overlooking Southlake Moor in the village of Burrowbridge. On top of the hill is a never completed church and some spectacular views are to be had just a short walk up from the carpark. A good stop off point on a drive around the area or to whet your appetite before a visit to the nearby King Alfred pub.

If you want to get out into nature, Withial Combe nature reserve provides a walk through a remote, steep-sided ancient wooded ravine and two small meadows great for woodland flowers and birds. There is a small carpark and walking is best in dry weather as it can be slippery under foot
