Best unagi I've had!
Prices are on the high side, but it is located in a fancy shopping mall in Nagoya so I guess that's to be expected. Food and service are both excellent. They have english menus available, with english instructions on how best to enjoy their signature unagi set with the various toppings.
I also enjoyed the liver and tamago unagi appetizer. The egg was fresh and warm and was still wobbling when it was served. Mm, I'm salivating as I'm thinking of that yummy food right now :)
Go early to avoid the long dinner lines. Highly recommended!

Great sushi, located near market zone. It's been around as long as I started biz travel to Nagoya area over 15yrs ago. Always the same Taishyo and mama san working there. His skill is like an art and nothing like cheaply mass produced sushi, he has just the right grip and sushi tastes just oh so heavenly.
Drinks are well chilled and served in nice little icy cold glass and always and endlessly filled throughout the evening.
Great dining experience sitting next to salary man on business dinner, hostess having dinner before the shift, or a lonely traveler lost in translation, this is just oh so Anthony Bourdain moment.
It is very pricy but you get what you pay for!

The place is really unique inside and very small and cozy like many places in Japan. The back wall is glass allowing you to watch the employees of the bicycle shop do their thing. The breakfast is a legit western style breakfast, good portion of it too. The owners did an amazing job setting this one up.
The original Yabaton is bomb. Near Yabacho in Nagoya, Yabaton's specialty is miso katsu, and after tasting some of their katsu, it is no reason why the line is always out the door.
Both times that I have been here, I opt for the half half miso katsu and tonkatsu with sauce. It is a nice way to compare and get the best of both worlds. The miso katsu flavoring is so intense, and the pork cutlet is tender. The sauce tonkatsu is deliciously fried, and I enjoy the crispy texture of that one. The set will cost about ￥1800 but it is also quite sizable. About 7-8 slices of both options of the half and half, along with miso soup, cabbage, tsukemono, and rice. I was able to split the meal with a friend both times I ate here.
Miso katsu being a must-try in Nagoya, until I find a better miso katsu place by happenstance, Yabaton will be #1 for me :)
