Great local Neighbourhood hang outs

This road in Easton is a good spot for authentic Indian food, such as ‘The Thali restaurant’ and ‘Swagatam’. There is also a fairly new tapas restaurant, called the ‘Garden of Easton’, which is full of lush plants and so makes for an interesting experience! There is also a great local food mart here, called ‘Bristol sweet mart’- A top spot for good value fruit and veg and everything else in between.

This is a great area to check out in the evenings, as it has a healthy night life, made so by great spots such as ‘Old market Assembly’- A happening bar that sells good local food, and even has its own Fringe venue (Wardrobe Theatre). It also has live music on most weekends. Advisable to book tickets in advance though! There is also a lively pub across the road called the Ill Repute, described as ‘Fine victuals, liberations & quality entertainments…with equally fun neighbours close by at the ‘Bristol Bear Bar’ Other must sees in this area is the ‘Trinity Community Arts’ centre, which is all about celebrating arts and culture. They provide a diverse programme of arts, heritage and cultural projects, activities and events.

Why go too far when theres a happening high street right on the doorstep! There’s a cracking locals bakery called ‘Loaf’, which is a must for the pastry and coffee lovers. Across the road is the ‘The Faraway tree’ cafe, which is a low key spot for good value food and drink during daytime hours. Other great food places include the ‘The lock Up’ and ‘The Red Church’, the latter also offers live music/DJ’s on occasional nights- advisable to book in advance as gets busy. If your in need of some time in nature, then there is St George park 5 min walk away, which has a lovely lake to sit by as well as lots of beautiful mature trees to sit and chill beneath. On warm days the park can also be a fun spot to picnic and play with the locals :) A little further afield, but still only a 20 min walk or so is ‘Troopers Hill’ with its wonky stone tower. Its a cracking spot up high to get views of the city, with the option to walk down to the river Avon and explore the lush valley that surrounds. If you have the energy to walk a little further, then following the Avon out of Bristol for an hour plus will eventually lead you to some pubs by a pretty weir which, is just the ticket after a long riverside amble…they are called ‘Chequers Inn A2B Hanham’ and ‘Old lock and Weir’.

Like something from a film set in parts, this area has a unique charm that feels quite different to the rest of the city. It has brewery tap rooms, a farm, climbing wall, good food, an eco housing development and much more…

Buses are ok, but sometimes an Uber/bike/Voi scooter wins

Download Voi app for good value travel, if you have a car license and don’t mind navigating roads on a powered scoot! Not recommended at night or if drinking though… Buses are good, but routes can be limited. Head to Church road high street for regular services into town and back. Cabs and Ubers offer great value later in the day/night if more than 1 passenger. The big Issue bikes (red and white) can also be hired through the app, similar to Voi scooters. Finally but not least, never underestimate walking if your happy to be on your feet and like hills- Bristol has lots of them!
