Local Information

In addition to Brownsville, there are many areas to visit along the Mississippi River. These are some of our favorites.
The city of Brownsville is a beautiful town located along the bluffs of the Mississippi River. Brownsville became the first established town in Minnesota Territory in 1848. Today it is a quaint community with local amenities and activities for residents and visitors traveling the Great River Road on Highway 61. Recreation

If you're visiting during open season (Memorial Day through Labor Day), Lawrence Lake is a widely visited marina on the Mississippi River. With a floating food barge, Friday night steak fry, Bonefish bar, off-sale liquor at the Oasis, bait and gift shop in addition to a boat landing and marina. Sightseeing

Over 200 American Indian mounds are located here in one of the most picturesque sections of the Upper Mississippi River Valley. Learn about the sacred mounds by visiting this National Monument Visitor Center.

Their path intersects the Mississippi River over the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area south of Brownsville, MN. They can be seen flying high overhead and their calls heard at night as they migrate along the Mississippi River. Migrating tundra swans start arriving at the Mississippi River south of Brownsville by late October. They remain until early December.
