One of the most walkable of the Northeast Los Angeles neighborhoods and quite possibly the friendliest. Business is buzzing on Glendale Blvd. with what seems to be a new store or restaurant opening monthly. Bike along the restored LA River or stroll down one of the tree-lined streets. We enjoy the breakfast burritos at Tacos Villa Corona, the turmeric fish at Viet Noodle Bar and pretty much everything at Proof Bakery. It’s all about community here, so join in the fun at the Sunday Farmers’ Market and bustling neighborhood all week long.

Sunset Blvd and Echo Park Ave are the lifelines — offering everything from homemade tamales to tattoos, organic produce to prize-winning pizza. Enjoy the lilies while strolling around the lake, hike along one of the many trails in Elysian Park, get your cardio going on the Berkeley staircase, or take in a game at Chavez Ravine. We’re down with a beer and peanuts at Gold Room, window shopping along the Sunset, and just about anything on the menu at Ostrich Farm. Watch out for cyclists blazing down Sunset on their fixies.

Los Feliz

Must-do’s for the neighborhood include: Skylight Books, Friday evenings up at Barnsdall Park, BarCovell, the Vista Theater, and pretty much everything at Yucca’s. Where else can you take a morning hike in Griffith Park, lunch at one of the wonderful outdoor eateries, play an afternoon round of golf and then grab take-out for that evening concert at the Greek?

Wax Paper offers sandwiches named after NPR hosts and Salazar provides alfresco dining and some of the best margaritas in town.

Over $100m of state funding has been dedicated to revitalizing the LA River, extending the bike path to DTLA creating a 51-mile wildlife habitat. Overlooking the water, Spoke Bicycle Café provides beer, wine, food and bike rentals + repairs. Wax Paper offers sandwiches named after NPR hosts and Salazar provides alfresco dining and some of the best margaritas in town.

Arguably the best borough for cheap eats: pizza at Casa Bianca, pastrami at The Oinkster, diner grub at Cindy’s and b-fast at Pete’s. Fancy food found here too – check out Little Beast or Colombo’s!
