Kanab Guidebook
City/town information
Kanab is a convenient homebase for adventurers and explorers. Kanab has everything you need from a variety of restaurants to coffee shops, grocery stores, general stores, and gas stations while staying small enough so you can take a break from traffic and bustle of a big city.
There is lots to do in town, so if you take a break from your adventures consider some of these:
Jacob Hemblin park has a summer swimming pool, great playground, splash pad, basketball and pickle ball courts, skate park and picnic areas.
Jackson Flats reservoir is a nice place for a run, bike ride, rollerblading, SUP, kayaking, fishing, beach volleyball, disk golf or an outdoor workout by the water.
Little Hollywood Museum - located in the back of the souvenir store and absolutely free. Lots of movie sets from many western movies filmed in the area + great photo ops.
Every February, the town hosts a hot air balloon festival and it is a must see at least once. PRO TIP: All balloons are sponsored and don't accept commercial flights. You can get to fly for free though. All you have to do is show up early in the morning on the days of balloon launches and volunteer to help pilots set up their balloons. If the weather is still good after the main flight, they will take you up afterwards.

Hikes in Kanab
One of the most beautiful hikes in Kanab City Limits only 1 mile from Dino Ranch. You can go all the way to the top and enjoy stunning views or turn off about a mile in and go see Dinosaur tracks - perfect for kids.

1 mile from Dino Ranch. Perfect for trail running or more moderate hiking. Long 7 mile r/t trail. You can go as far as you like, the views are pretty all the way. There is a nice picnic spot above the parking lot - check it out!

Great hiking trail about 40 min from Kanab. Easy trail that follows a wash and leads to a slot canyon. Buckskin Gulch, it is 1.7 miles one-way if you follow the wash and not the side trails.
The area requires a permit displayed in your car with an associated fee per person per day to enter, obtained online https://www.recreation.gov/camping/gateways/10071676 or at a BLM office, like the station on White House Trailhead Rd.

House Rock Valley RoadGreat hiking trail about 40 min from Kanab. Easy trail that follows a wash and leads to a slot canyon. Buckskin Gulch, it is 1.7 miles one-way if you follow the wash and not the side trails.

National Parks Nearby
East entrance of Zion is only about 30 min away. The beauty of Zion is hard to describe. Prepare to be amazed. Also prepare to see lots of people especially during the high season (March - November). During high season park runs a shuttle to get you to all the main interest points so head to the visitor center first and park there. If you don't feel like dealing with crowds, try some hikes at the East Entrance of the park before you get to the tunnel.

If you don't feel like dealing with crowds, try some hikes at the East Entrance of the park before you get to the tunnel.
Bryce is about 1.5 hours away and can be a great day trip especially on a hot day. It is a bit cooler there because of the higher elevation. The views are amazing but it can get a little crowded. Or favorite hike was when we went down at Queens Garden then took Navaho trail and came back up via Wall Street - unforgettable!

Bryce is about 1.5 hours away and can be a great day trip especially on a hot day. It is a bit cooler there because of the higher elevation. The views are amazing but it can get a little crowded. Or favorite hike was when we went down at Queens Garden then took Navaho trail and came back up via Wall Street - unforgettable!
Another great day trip - Grand Canyon North Rim is about 1.5 hours away. It's beautiful and less crowded. The North Rim, or "other side" of Grand Canyon is visited by only 10% of all Grand Canyon visitors.
