Food scene

128 Darlinghurst Rd, Darlinghurst It looks like a basic coffee shop that might serve a pre-packaged muffin, but take one look at the menu, and you’ll see this place has substantial meal offerings and approaches food with creativity and attention to detail, specifying the provenance of its ingredients. It’s a real treat but get here early for the very limited seating. Great coffee too. https://fable-coffee-sydney.business.site/

274-279 Victoria St, Darlinghurst This is one of Sydney’s first sourdough bakeries focused on the traditional methods of making bread. It started in the 90s in the back streets of Darlinghurst, serving up stoneground sourdoughs and pastries to the eclectic crowd that lived there. Great coffee, pies, cakes, and sandwiches as well as a wide range of bread. https://www.infinitybakery.com.au/

306 Liverpool St, Darlinghurst Darlo’s artistic living room, bursting with personality with retro décor and vibrant history to match. Over the decades it’s been home to politicians, art students, and medical professionals. These days it's full of quirky locals enjoying the open-air upstairs bar or watching the passing parade from the pavement seating. There’s a distinctly queer vibe although anyone is welcome. Don’t miss the Sunday afternoon DJs upstairs. https://www.darlobar.com.au/

“Darlinghurst beach”. Lovely park with a magnificent harbourside setting and at low tide you can even get your feet onto the sand. Nearby two of Sydney's finest historic houses - Elizabeth Bay House and Boomerang. Eat at Bird and Bear boathouse or buy a picnic lunch from there. Watch out for bears (just kidding). There is also a playground for kids. https://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/parks/beare-park
