Oslo's Opera House is located right at the harbour, with an angled, white exterior that appears to rise from the water. It invites its visitors to climb its roof and enjoy panoramic views of Oslo and the fjord, all year round. Large-scale windows at street level provide the public with glimpses of rehearsals and workshop activities. The building's interior is mainly oak, and the main hall is shaped like a horseshoe, reminiscent of classical theatres of the past. The opera is designed by the Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta, and has received several prestigious awards. The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet offers a rich and varied programme from three stages: The Main House (1369 seats), Second House (400 seats) and the Studio (200 seats). The Opera roof and foyer are also used for concerts. Guided tours available in Norwegian and English.

Go for a swim at Ormøya and Malmøya. Two islands just 15-20 min walk from the apartment, connected to the mainland by bridge. To get to Ormøya, you cross Ormsundbrua, a beautiful wrought-iron bridge from 1922. The island has beautiful Swiss-style houses from the 1860s and 1870s, and Ormøy church from 1892 was built in the same style. From Ormøya another bridge takes you to the larger island Malmøya. On the south end of Malmøya, one kilometre from the bus stop, you find Solvikbukta with a sandy beach, toilets and some parking spaces. The coastline is generally not available except for the north and south on the island. Malmøya also has lush forests, and parts of the island is a nature reserve.

"I'm finally standing in front of this white building with its blue glass windows that seems to rise from the water like an iceberg, and it’s just spectacular. I’m feeling the cold wind on my face, I hear the movement of the water and best of all, I can walk up to the roof of this ‘iceberg’ to appreciate the 360° view. Of course I’m taking a photo that I will share just like the many people before me did. But trust me, whatever expectations you may have based on this photo, it’s even better to see it for yourself!" How to get around

Take "trikk" / tram number 13 or 19 to the station Sportsplassen. Thanks to Oslo’s excellent public transportation system Ruter, it is easy to travel around the city. Distances between attractions are often quite short, so you can explore a lot of the city by walking or biking. We recommend the Ruter app for both journey planning and tickets. All public transport in Oslo and the surrounding boroughs are included in one ticketing system. That includes city and regional buses, trams, undergrounds, local trains and ferries. The ferries to Bygdøy are not included. https://ruter.no/en/journey/
